Event Overview

Arts Fair on the Square is celebrating 27 years of bringing visual artists and craftspeople together with the local and regional buying community.  This juried art show features over 50 regional and national artists and craftspeople on the picturesque grounds surrounding the Monroe County Courthouse.  The mission of Arts Fair on the Square is to showcase fine art and craft of the highest quality, connect artists with the art-buying community, and promote commitment to the arts through a variety of interactive arts experiences.  Arts Fair on the Square is a project of the Bloomington Area Arts Council; a community-based non-profit organization that serves as the foundation of arts in the community by managing the John Waldron Arts Center and delivering high quality arts programming and services including arts education, performances, exhibitions and gallery shop, regional services to support artists and arts organizations, and an arts information website.

Connie Lindman: Carmel, IndianaAs part of its silver anniversary celebration Arts Fair on the Square partnered with Traditional Arts Indiana to highlight traditional and heritage craftspeople from around Indiana.  Traditional Arts Indiana is a statewide organization dedicated to expanding public awareness of Indiana’s traditional practices and nurturing a sense of pride among Indiana’s traditional artists.  Master folk artisans in basketmaking, carving, chair caning and more will share their skills with visitors at locations throughout Arts Fair on the Square.

The John Waldron Arts Center gets into the act for Arts Fair on the Square this year, hosting interactive activities for adults and children on the sidewalks around the Arts Center Activities include the “Hot Pot” raku firing, hands-on potters wheel fun, and free “sampler” classes inside on drawing, painting and more.
