FY2002 Region 8 RPI Grants

The Bloomington Area Arts Council (BAAC) is pleased to announce that 20 arts providers in Brown, Greene, Lawrence, Monroe and Owen Counties will benefit from $71,582 in grant awards for arts programming between July 2001 and June 2002. This marks the third year that the BAAC and Indiana Arts Commission (IAC) have partnered as regional grantmakers in the Regional Partnership Initiative.

Area 10 Council on Aging of Monroe and Owen Counties
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $3,700 County: Monroe
For the Ellettsville-based Endwright Center Arts Program which serves 400 participants. Grant funds will support 10 arts classes and workshops at 3 senior centers in Monroe and Owen counties.
Bloomington Chamber Singers
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $3,700 County: Monroe
For the Spring Concert of the 2001-2002 season, which will feature The Passion of St. Matthew by J.S. Bach. Funds will support artists' fees and other expenses.
Bloomington Playwrights Project, Inc.
Grant Program: AOS Grant Amount: $4,300 County: Monroe
For its seven production season of new plays for 2001-2002. The BPP produces works that focus on talented, emerging and early career playwrights.
Bloomington Symphony Orchestra
Grant Program: AOS/I Grant Amount: $5,000 County: Monroe
For the 2001-2002 concert series and instrumental music education programs.
Brown County Art Gallery Foundation, Inc.
Grant Program: AOS/I Grant Amount: $3,200 County: Brown
For exhibitions, workshops, and maintenance of the gallery in Nashville.
Brown County Playhouse, Inc.
Grant Program: AOS/II Grant Amount: $15,200 SIZE=3 County: Brown
For support for the 53rd season in 2002. Funds will assist in providing salaries for Equity actors and other professional artists, thus assuring the highest quality and providing student theatre artists the opportunity to hone their craft in a professional setting.
Early Music Associates, Inc.
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $4,100 County: Monroe
For the annual Bloomington Early Music Festival which brings together leading soloists and ensembles for a series of concerts, opera, master classes, workshops and pre-concert talks.
Friends of Bloomfield-Eastern Greene County Library
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $250 County: Greene
For an author's program for Greene County residents.
Gosport Elementary School
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $500 County: Owen
For a musical performance by the Gosport Elementary School drama students for the Gosport Community during their Lazy Days Festival in August 2001. The project will involve 50 -100 students and serve an audience of 300 - 500 people
Indiana Heritage Arts
Grant Program: A0SI Grant Amount: $1600 County: Brown
Funds are requested for general operating support for the statewide arts activities of the organization.
Indiana University, fiscal sponsor for IU Art Museum
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $3,800 County: Monroe
For a special exhibition that will trace the fifty-year long career of Rudy Pozatti, Distinguished Professor Emeritus in IU's Hope School of Fine Arts. This retrospective will be free and open to the general public from March 2, 2002 thru May 5, 2002. Pozatti is a world-famous artist, printmaker and teacher residing and working in Bloomington.
Indiana University, fiscal sponsor for Indiana Review
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $3,700 County: Monroe
For two free public readings involving nationally-known fiction writers and poets as well as the inclusion of works by Region 8 visual artists in the publication of the Indiana Review.
Indiana University, fiscal sponsor for School of Fine Arts
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $3,450 County: Monroe
For four exhibitions of contemporary art by professional artists. Funds will be used for publicity and printing expenses.
Little Theatre of Bedford, Inc.
Grant Program: AOS Grant Amount: $2,200 County: Lawrence
For its 42nd theatre season. Funds will support artistic royalties and marketing costs.
Lotus Education and Arts Foundation, Inc.
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $5,000 County: Monroe
For the eighth annual Lotus World Music and Arts Festival, September 19-23, 2001 to take place throughout Bloomington. Funds will be used to help underwrite artists' fees.
Owen County 4-H
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $500 County: Owen
To provide additional arts workshops for all the youth of Owen County.
Owen County Soil and Water Conservation District
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $500 County: Owen
For a day-long seminar entitled "Artistry in Nature" focusing on various art forms created by utilizing natural materials or settings. The seminar will be offered to all Owen County residents.
Shawnee Summer Theatre of Greene County: , Inc.
Grant Program: AOS/I Grant Amount: $7,000 County: Greene
For general operating support of the Shawnee Theatre of Greene County. Funds will be used for artists' salaries and marketing.
Southern Indiana Youth Symphony, Inc.
Grant Program: Mini Grant Amount: $500 County: Lawrence
For support of one of the Southern Indiana Youth Symphony's four annual concerts.
Windfall Dancers, Inc.
Grant Program: APS Grant Amount: $3,600 County: Monroe
For Parallel Differences, a multi-disciplinary performance project that is designed to explore those qualities "which make us different and which make us the same". Teens will work with adult mentors to write, script, and assist with choreography, set design, costume design, lighting design, and music integration.
